In December we will not have a formal meeting.  We will have a social gathering  on Wednesday, December 21, 7pm, at Home Team BBQ, 1205 Ashley River Rd in West Ashley.  Join us for a drink or two and a few laughs as we wind down the year and look forward to 2012.  Hope to see you there!

Unity Rally and Prayer Vigils to oppose the Anti-Immigrant Law, S.B. 20, Dec 18 and 19

The U.S. Department of Justice and several civil and human rights organizations are challenging the constitutionality of South Carolina’s anti-immigrant law, SB 20 in U.S. District Court in Charleston.  SB 20, signed into law in June, encourages racial profiling by allowing law enforcement to investigate the immigration status of anyone they pull over whom they suspect may be in the state illegally.  For info:

What:  Rally at Washington Square Park and demonstrate outside U.S. District Courthouse

When:  December 19, 9:00 am

Where:  Washington Square Park (78 Broad Street, Charleston); Walk over to U.S. District Courthouse (85 Broad Street, Charleston)

Protest at the GOP debate in Charleston, Jan 19 (time and location TBD)

Join local groups as we say to the GOP “you don’t represent 99% of the US”.   There will be lots of media attention as this debate is just 2 days before the GOP primary – let’s be seen and heard!

Adopt a Highway

The Charleston Green Party has adopted 5th Avenue and adjoining streets in Maryville/Ashleyville as part of the Adopt a Highway project.  Our next pickup is Saturday, February 4, 2012  – meet us in front of the Emanuel AME Church at 10:30am.
